MVA Section B coverage Camrose

Injured in a collision in the Camrose area? Your treatment is funded through your own auto insurer, whoever was at fault, and we bill them directly.

MVA Section B Coverage For MVA Physiotherapy

MVA Section B Coverage Camrose benefits are the part of every Alberta auto policy that pays for your treatment after a collision. They are no-fault, which means you access them through your own insurer regardless of who caused the crash, and using them does not raise your premium as an at-fault claim would.

You do not need a lawyer to start treatment, and you do not need to wait for the collision to be settled. In most cases you also do not need a doctor’s referral, because physiotherapy, chiropractic and massage therapy are all direct-access in Alberta.

Start early. The single most common problem we see is people waiting to see whether the stiffness settles on its own, then starting treatment weeks later with less funding available and a slower recovery.

How Treatment Is Covered With Section B Coverage

For the common soft-tissue injuries that come out of collisions — sprains, strains and whiplash-associated disorder — Alberta’s Diagnostic and Treatment Protocols Regulation sets out a defined block of treatment your insurer funds without needing to pre-approve each visit. Depending on the injury and its severity, that block is either 10 or 21 visits.

A few practical points that catch people out:

  • One appointment counts as one visit, however long it takes.
  • If two separate injuries are treated in the same appointment, that can use two of your allotted visits. We will explain this and get your agreement before doing it.
  • Since November 2020, the minor injury definition also covers clinically associated psychological injuries such as concussion and post-traumatic stress where they are connected to the physical injury.
  • Beyond the protocol treatment, Section B provides further physiotherapy funding before insurer approval is required, plus a separate allowance for adjunct services such as psychology and occupational therapy.

If your injuries fall outside the protocols, or you need treatment beyond the MVA section B coverage Camrose funded block, that is common and it is handled through your insurer with supporting reporting from the clinic.

Important Note About Section B Coverage

Alberta is replacing the current system with a new Care-First model, with a start date of 1 January 2027. For injured people the headline change is treatment funding: instead of being capped at 10 to 21 visits by injury severity, medical and rehabilitation treatment becomes unlimited for as long as it continues to support your recovery.

The province has also set out higher income replacement, permanent impairment and fatality benefits under the new system, and faster access to those benefits.

What this means practically: if your collision happens before the changeover, the current protocols are what apply to your claim. If you are injured after it, expect a different and generally more generous treatment pathway. We will update this page as the implementation details are confirmed. If you are unsure which system applies to you, call us at (780) 673-0573 and we will help you work it out.

Common Questions About MVA Section B Coverage Camrose

Section B accident benefits are no-fault. Accessing treatment through them is not the same as being found at fault for the collision, and it is what the coverage exists for.
Yes. Section B benefits come from your own policy regardless of who caused the collision. That is what no-fault means in this context.
No. Treatment funding and any injury settlement are separate matters. Waiting on legal advice before starting treatment usually only delays your recovery.
You are still covered. Which policy responds depends on the circumstances, so bring whatever details you have and we will help identify the right insurer.
As soon as you can. Early treatment gives a better outcome for whiplash and soft-tissue injuries, and it also documents the injury clearly while the link to the collision is unambiguous.
That is common with more significant injuries. Continued treatment is requested from your insurer with clinical reporting to support it, and we handle that submission.
