A precise, controlled movement applied to a specific joint — what it does, what it feels like, and when it is the right choice.
What Does a Chiropractic Adjustment Actually Do?
A chiropractic adjustment applies a controlled, quick force to a joint that has become restricted, restoring its normal range of movement. The audible pop is gas releasing from the joint fluid, not bone moving. The aim is to reduce pain and free up movement, not to permanently “put something back”.
What Is a Chiropractic Adjustment in Camrose?
A chiropractic adjustment, also called spinal manipulation, is a controlled force applied to a specific joint at a specific angle and depth. The aim is to restore movement to a joint that is not moving as it should, and to reduce the pain and muscle guarding that come with that restriction.
The audible pop that often accompanies an adjustment is not a bone moving back into place, and it is not a sign the treatment worked. It is a gas bubble releasing within the joint fluid, a phenomenon called cavitation. Plenty of effective adjustments make no sound at all, and the sound on its own tells you nothing about the outcome.
Adjustments at our Camrose clinic are performed by Dr. Robert Weeks, a chiropractor working alongside our physiotherapy and massage team.
Conditions That May Benefit From Chiropractic Adjustment in Camrose
The evidence for spinal manipulation is strongest for musculoskeletal problems, and that is where we use it:

Low back pain
The best-evidenced application, particularly for recent, non-specific low back pain. See chiropractic for lower back pain.

Neck pain and stiffness
Restricted cervical movement and the pain that comes with it. See neck pain and whiplash.

Cervicogenic headache
Headache originating from the neck rather than the head. See headaches and migraines.

Mid-back and rib restriction
Thoracic stiffness from posture, desk work or a specific incident.

Joint restriction after injury
Once the acute phase has settled and movement needs restoring.

Sacroiliac and pelvic pain
Including during and after pregnancy — see prenatal chiropractic.
What to Expect During a Chiropractic Adjustment in Camrose
You are assessed before you are adjusted. That means history, movement testing, palpation and, where relevant, neurological or orthopaedic screening. The point is to establish what is actually restricted and to rule out anything that would make manipulation inappropriate.
An adjustment itself is quick. Most of the appointment is assessment, explanation and the other work around it — soft tissue treatment, mobilisation and the exercise you take home.
Adjustment is rarely the whole treatment. A joint that keeps stiffening usually has a reason, and if the surrounding muscles and movement habits do not change, the restriction returns. That is why chiropractic here sits alongside therapeutic exercise and massage therapy rather than standing alone.
When Chiropractic Adjustment May Not Be Appropriate
Manipulation is not right for everyone, and part of a proper assessment is identifying that. We would not adjust, or would modify significantly, where there is significant osteoporosis, inflammatory arthritis affecting the spine, recent fracture, a bleeding disorder or anticoagulant use, signs of nerve compression needing different management, or symptoms suggesting something that belongs with a physician rather than a chiropractor.
Where adjustment is not the right tool, we say so and use something that is — or refer you on. Being told honestly that a treatment will not help you is more valuable than being sold it.
