Vestibular Rehabilitation Camrose

Dizziness, spinning and unsteadiness — assessed properly, because the cause determines the treatment.

Understanding Dizziness and Vestibular Rehabilitation in Camrose

“Dizzy” describes several quite different experiences, and separating them is most of the diagnostic work.

Vertigo is a spinning sensation, either of you or the room. Unsteadiness is feeling off balance while walking. Light-headedness is feeling faint. They point in different directions, and the treatment differs accordingly.

Vestibular rehabilitation addresses dizziness and balance problems arising from the inner ear balance system and its connections. It is one of the more satisfying areas of physiotherapy, because some conditions within it resolve remarkably quickly.

BPPV Treatment and Vestibular Rehabilitation in Camrose

If your dizziness is brief and intense, lasts under a minute, and is reliably triggered by a change in head position, there is a reasonable chance it is BPPV.

It is caused by calcium carbonate crystals that have moved out of place into one of the semicircular canals. A repositioning manoeuvre — the Epley being the best known — moves them back. Many people are substantially better after one or two sessions.

A lot of people live with this for months assuming nothing can be done. It is worth getting assessed.

Dizziness with sudden severe headache, double vision, difficulty speaking or swallowing, weakness or numbness, or new hearing loss needs urgent medical assessment. So does dizziness after a significant head injury.
Some vestibular exercises provoke symptoms deliberately — that is how the system adapts. It is uncomfortable but temporary, and the dose is set with you.
BPPV is often one to three sessions. Vestibular hypofunction takes weeks of consistent daily exercise. Cervicogenic dizziness follows the neck treatment timeline.
If your dizziness is unpredictable or severe, do not drive until it is under control. We will give you a straight answer at assessment.

I have been seeing Hiya for my physio since a fall and a car accident. She is lovely and goes above and beyond for her clients, you can truly see she is passionate about her work. The front desk girls are all wonderful too! Always so nice, and remember you by name, greetings everyone as they come in the door. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my experience.
