Massage built around what you are training for — before an event, after one, and through the season.
Sports Massage Camrose for Training and Competition
Sports massage is less a distinct technique than a set of techniques applied with the demands of your sport in mind. Sports Massage Camrose focuses on the specific muscle groups your sport loads, using appropriate techniques, pressure, and pace based on where you are in your training or competition cycle.
The practical difference is timing. A treatment two days before a game is not the treatment you want the day after one, and neither is what you want in the off-season. Getting that wrong is how people end up feeling heavy and flat on competition day after a session that would have been ideal a week earlier.
When to Book Sports Massage Around Competition

Pre-event
Shorter and lighter, in the days before competition. Stimulating rather than deep, to leave you loose without leaving you sore.

Post-event
After competition, to work through the soreness and stiffness of hard effort and get you back to training sooner.

Maintenance
Through the season, addressing the areas your sport loads before they turn into an injury.

Off-season
The window for deeper work on long-standing restrictions, when there is no competition to protect.

Return from injury
Alongside rehabilitation, to address the tissue changes and compensations that follow time out.

Heavy training blocks
When volume is high and recovery between sessions is the limiting factor.
Sports Massage Techniques We Used
Different sports load the body in predictable ways, and around Camrose we see a fairly consistent set:
- Hockey — hip flexors, adductors and low back, from the skating stride and the posture it demands
- Running — calves, hamstrings, the IT band region and the foot
- Ball sports — the shoulder and thoracic spine on the throwing or serving side, plus groin and hip from cutting and pivoting
- Golf — thoracic rotation, the lead-side hip and the forearm
- Farm and trade work — not a sport, but the loading is athletic and the pattern is similar: low back, shoulders and grip
Where the problem is a genuine injury rather than tissue load, massage supports the work but does not replace it. Sports injury physiotherapy is the right route for diagnosis, rehabilitation and a return-to-sport plan.
Common Questions About Sports Massage Camrose
Deep work is best kept to at least 48 to 72 hours before you compete. Lighter pre-event work can be closer than that. Tell your therapist your competition date at booking and the session will be adjusted to it.
No. The techniques suit anyone whose activity loads their body repetitively — recreational runners, weekend league players, and people whose work is physically demanding.
It can be firm, particularly in off-season or maintenance work, but it should stay at a pressure you can breathe through. Pre-event work is deliberately lighter.
Sixty minutes for a couple of regions. Thirty minutes works well for a focused pre-event session on one area.
Frequently the best results come from combining massage with a targeted strength and mobility program. Our therapeutic exercise and kinesiology services cover that side.
