Desk work, driving and phones load the spine in predictable ways. What actually helps, and what does not.
Posture Matters Less Than Position Changes
The evidence on posture has moved. There is no single correct posture, and sitting imperfectly is not what causes back pain. What consistently does cause trouble is staying in one position for too long, whatever that position is.
Tissue loaded in the same way for hours becomes uncomfortable. Muscles held at a fixed length fatigue. Joints that do not move stiffen. That is why the person with a perfectly configured workstation who never leaves it still ends up sore, and why the fix is rarely a new chair on its own.
So we treat the restriction and the discomfort, and then talk about frequency of movement rather than lecturing you about sitting up straight.
What We Typically Find

Thoracic stiffness
The mid-back loses rotation and extension first. It then asks the neck and low back to compensate.

Upper trapezius and levator tension
The classic shoulder-and-neck ache, often with headache attached.

Deep neck flexor weakness
The stabilisers give out, the head drifts forward, and the load climbs.

Hip flexor shortening
From hours of sitting, feeding into low back discomfort on standing.

Glute deconditioning
Muscles that do very little all day, then get asked for everything on the weekend.

Forearm and wrist load
Mouse and keyboard work — see elbow, wrist and hand pain.
What Actually Helps
Move more often. A change of position every 30 to 45 minutes does more than any chair. Standing desks help only because they make position changes easy — standing still all day produces its own problems.
Treat the restriction. Manual treatment for the thoracic and cervical spine where movement has been lost, plus soft tissue work for the muscles doing the compensating.
Build the capacity. A short daily routine for the mid-back, deep neck flexors and glutes. Small and consistent beats thorough and abandoned.
Fix the obvious. Screen at eye height, forearms supported, feet down, phone not cradled on the shoulder. A proper ergonomic assessment covers this properly if the setup is a real contributor.
