Prenatal Chiropractic Camrose

Gentle, adapted chiropractic care for the low back and pelvic pain that pregnancy brings.

What Is Prenatal Chiropractic Care?

Pregnancy loads the low back and pelvis in a way nothing else does. The centre of gravity moves forward, the lumbar curve increases, the pelvis widens, and relaxin softens the ligaments that normally hold the pelvic joints steady. For women looking for Prenatal Chiropractic Camrose, these changes may be relevant when addressing common musculoskeletal concerns during pregnancy. The predictable result is low back ache, sacroiliac pain and, for some, pubic symphysis pain that makes rolling over in bed or getting out of a car genuinely difficult.

Prenatal chiropractic care aims at the joint and movement side of that. Treatment is adapted throughout: positioning changes as pregnancy progresses, force is reduced, and certain techniques are set aside entirely.

Chiropractic Assessment During Pregnancy

For an uncomplicated pregnancy, adapted chiropractic care is appropriate. There are circumstances where we will ask you to speak to your physician or midwife before we treat, and where a symptom belongs with your maternity care provider rather than with us:

  • Vaginal bleeding, leaking fluid, or reduced fetal movement
  • Pre-eclampsia, high blood pressure, or sudden significant swelling
  • Placenta praevia or other placental complications
  • A history of pre-term labour, or a pregnancy identified as high risk
  • Severe or sudden abdominal pain

Those first three in particular are urgent medical matters. Contact your maternity provider, not a chiropractor.

A note on scope. Some clinics market prenatal chiropractic as influencing fetal position or birth outcomes. We do not make those claims. What adapted chiropractic care can reasonably offer is help with the musculoskeletal pain of pregnancy, which is a worthwhile thing on its own.

Common Questions of Prenatal Chiropractic Camrose

For an uncomplicated pregnancy, adapted treatment is appropriate. Tell us how far along you are and anything your care provider has flagged, and treatment is adjusted accordingly.
Side-lying with support as pregnancy progresses. You will not be face down past the early weeks.
There is no fixed point. Many people come when the pain starts, which is often in the second or third trimester.
Yes. The postnatal period brings its own loading — feeding posture, carrying and lifting.
Often, yes. Prenatal massage addresses the muscular side and the two work well together. Pelvic girdle and pelvic floor symptoms may also need physiotherapy.

I have been seeing Hiya for my physio since a fall and a car accident. She is lovely and goes above and beyond for her clients, you can truly see she is passionate about her work. The front desk girls are all wonderful too! Always so nice, and remember you by name, greetings everyone as they come in the door. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about my experience.
